Top Charleston Health And Fitness Related Blogs

This is a post I’ve wanted to write for some time but it kept getting pushed aside by other projects. Today I made time to get it done.

What I wanted to write about was the fact that we’ve got some great resources for health, wellness, and fitness information right here in our own beloved hometown of Charleston, South Carolina.

There are some truly passionate people in our community writing blogs to educate, coach, and inspire others. While the major news feeds get most of the attention on the internet, I wanted to fill you in on some of these local gems.

I’ve been fortunate to meet many of the individuals I’m about to mention, a few I haven’t had the privilege yet. But one thing is for certain, they all have my gratitude and respect for the work they do.

In no particular order here are some of the top health and fitness related blogs in Charleston.

More after the jump…

Louie’s Kids Blog

Louie’s Kids is a local non-profit organization that raises funds to help treat childhood obesity. Founded by Louis Yuhasz, this is a great cause and one that’s near and dear to my heart. Louis is very active in the local community and has done an amazing job expanding the outreach of this program.

He’s truly passionate about helping others and his organization is fine reflection of that. The blog is a great resource for more information about childhood obesity along with providing news on local events and opportunities to participate.

Dr. Ann’s Blog

Dr. Ann Kulze¬† is a local physician, speaker, and best-selling author from right here in our own backyard. She’s been featured on the Dr. Oz show, Oprah and Friends Radio, Time Magazine, NPR, WebMD, CNN Radio, and Prevention magazine to name a few.

A true local celebrity, Dr. Ann has a wealth of knowledge on nutrition and disease prevention. Her blog is just one of the many ways she educates and inspires others. Definitely worth checking out and putting on your RSS feeds.

Bryan Ganey’s Blog

Bryan Ganey is a local guy who’s used his own personal weight loss story to encourage and inspire others. His blog serves as a platform to share information about how he lost over 300 lbs and truly transformed his life.

His story has been picked up by local and national media including CNN, MSN, and ABC News. He blogs regularly about his own personal experiences along with opinion on all matters related to the weight loss and wellness industries.

Bryan pulls no punches and tells it like it is. For that he has my respect. I’ve written about Bryan in the past on my news feed when his story was picked up by CNN. When doctors encouraged him to consider weight loss surgery he boldly refused and set out to drop the pounds with lifestyle changes instead.

He’s truly an inspiration for overweight individuals who may be on the verge of giving up hope of ever getting to a healthy body weight. Dietary changes and exercise does work and he’s living proof.

He covers local fitness events and has the pulse on all things related to fitness in the Lowcountry. His specialty is on running and endurance training which is the subject matter or his featured blog.

David is an avid runner himself, having participated in over 30 marathons and triathlons. He’s a sharp guy who knows his stuff and does a great job of educating and inspiring others with his writing.

He has a depth of knowledge on nutrition, bio-identical hormonal replacement, exercise science, and health supplementation. He is the founder of Organic Medicine and also has a local practice in Mt. His holistic approach to health and wellness is one of the reasons he serves on the advisory board here at Shaping Concepts.
