The Secrets Behind Dr Oz’s Metabolism Makeover

Dr Oz, one of America’s favorite health experts, recently took to the airwaves to reveal a nutrition plan he claimed could help reverse a sluggish metabolism in a mere seven days.

I was curious to see what he included in his “Metabolism Makeover” as I’ve been a fan of Dr. Oz’s ever since reading his book “You On A Diet.”

The first principal Dr. Oz teaches in his plan is to “eat slimming super-foods.” For maximum benefits to your metabolism he recommends eating unprocessed all-natural foods. Someone give me a “halleluiah” as finally someone is teaching the truth rather than gimmicks!

Dr. Oz says to choose foods like cottage cheese, fish, lean proteins, colorful fruit and vegetables, leafy greens, and whole grains.

I for one would recommend pulling the whole grains out for a while, especially for individuals who have insulin sensitivity issues, but in general I agree with everything he says. The food choices Dr Oz recommends are for the most part the same foods in a Primal Blueprint Diet that you hear me advocating all the time.

His second principal is to take the best “anti-flab supplements.” These include Vitamin D, Omega-3’s, Calcium, and a good multi-vitamin. Hard to argue with these recommendations either.

I tell everyone to take a good quality fish or flax oil in order to get omega-3 fatty acids in their diet. It’s one of the best things you can do for your health, hands down. The other vitamins and minerals he recommends can’t hurt but ultimately it will come down to your ability to assimilate them.

When taking vitamin and mineral supplements choose only the highest quality products as you truly do get what you pay for. Remember supplements are only worth the money if the vitamin or mineral actually gets assimilated into your cells. If not you’ll be flushing it, along with your hard earned money, down the drain.

Dr. Oz’s third metabolism makeover principal is to outsmart your “get fat hormones.” I couldn’t agree with this more. Dr. Oz claims if you want to eat less you should look to get seven or eight hours of sleep per night.

Studies conclusively show that well-rested individuals have lower levels of grehlin (the hunger hormone) and higher levels of leptin (the hormone that tells you when you’re full).

Getting adequate sleep also helps to balance out the adrenal glands, which when stressed can trigger a cascade of hormonal imbalances in your body leading to weight gain.

Many people don’t associate a lack of sleep with stress, but truth be told, long-term it’s probably the most stressful thing you can do to your body.

Here’s the bottom line with my review of Dr. Oz’s Metabolism Makeover. What he’s recommending is sound advice. His plan is certainly not about gimmicks or quick fixes but rather how a person can change their metabolism with supportive nutrition, exercise, and balancing hormone levels with lifestyle change.

A fad diet won’t change anyone’s life long-term but teaching someone how to eat from a lifestyle perspective certainly can. That should be the goal of anybody who coaches or consults with people on weight loss. It appears that Dr Oz believes the same so his Metabolism Makeover gets a “thumbs up” in my review.
