If you’ve ever struggled with trying to lose weight only to fail time and time again I understand your pain. There are few things more frustrating than really trying to stick with a diet plan only to see the scale stuck on a number that won’t budge.

Over the years as a fitness coach and personal trainer I’ve discovered there are three main reasons why most people blow it. I’m going to share with you what these three reasons are and how to finally lose the weight you want once and for all.

If you’ve followed my material for any length of time you’d know that I’m a big proponent of a Primal Blueprint or Paleo type of diet.

After all my years of research and study I’ve come to one basic and fundamental conclusion. The obesity epidemic that our country is up against is largely due to the fact we’re eating the wrong foods.

A diet of natural foods has been replaced in our country with foods that are processed, refined, and altered in ways never imagined a mere fifty years ago. The problem is not limited to junk foods and manufactured or man-made foods that make up the bulk of the standard American diet.

The third week of January has arrived and research tells us this will be the week when the majority of people break their diet or other New Year’s resolution.

This won’t be you of course because I’m going to coach you through it, but never-the-less expect to see a bunch of your co-workers and friends falling off the wagon this week.

Here’s why…

With all the confusion and misinformation about what to eat for weight loss and optimal health I’m always looking to simplify things for you.

If you’ve followed my coaching tips for a while you know that I’m all about focusing on eating natural foods. As a general rule if God made it eat it, if not leave it alone.

Unfortunately with the modernization of food production on multiple levels, the idea of what’s truly natural is even cloudy.

I don’t know if it’s every been designated as such but if not I’m going to be the first to declare the first Monday after New Year’s to be the national “Start Your Diet Day.”

There’s no question that more diets are started today than any other time of the year.

But as we know the majority of these diets will be broken in a few weeks along with the New Year’s resolutions that went with them.

I ran into a friend today at a local Charleston gym where I got to use the sauna and take a shower after my daily workouts.

In passing conversation he mentioned something about New Year’s resolutions and it got me thinking.

I wanted to share with you why I believe traditional New Year’s resolutions are a complete waste of your time…And what you should do instead if you’re serious about seeing a significant change with some area of your life for 2011.

I get a bunch of emails each week with questions on what to follow in regards to fitness and nutrition recommendations. I often look to answer questions personally when I have time but I figured it would be a great idea to share “frequently asked questions” in a new series I’m calling “The Inside Scoop.”

There’s a lot of myths and misconceptions out there and anything I can do to help set the record straight I’m happy to help.

If you have any questions you’d like to see answered feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

I don’t know if you saw this but earlier this month CNN released a story about a Kansas State nutrition professor who went on a ten week diet consisting of Twinkies, Little Debbie snack cakes, Hostess cupcakes, and other junk foods.

The headline read “Twinkie diet helps nutrition professor lose 27 pounds.” I cringed when I read those words as if there wasn’t enough misinformation and confusion about fat loss in the media.

I’ve been reading some research lately comparing junk food addiction to that of drug addiction and I’m blown away that this doesn’t get more coverage.

Scientists are discovering that eating processed and refined foods can create a similar chemical response in the brain to that of drugs like cocaine and heroin.

Are you kidding me? Doesn’t anybody else see the shock value in that last statement? I mean I think nobody is really all that surprised that junk food can be addicting, no big news there…

Thursday, October 28th, 2010 - Shane Doll

I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine about a frustrating obstacle to losing weight that he just can’t seem to beat for good.

I wanted to share that topic of our discussion along with a personal story as a way to hopefully shed some light on this subject while also providing encouragement.
