Everyone knows rule #1 with dieting when looking to shed unwanted body fat. You’ve got to cut out the sugars! Unfortunately this is easier said than done for most people.

There is no question that excess sugar in the body is one of the primary reasons that people struggle with fat loss. However, it’s not the calories in sugar that poses the problem but rather the impact sugar has on the hormonal systems in your body.

Consuming a diet high in processed sugars, refined foods, and starch carbohydrates combined with a lack of exercise is almost a sure-fire way to develop insulin resistance and metabolic X syndrome.

You’ve got to control insulin levels and improve sensitivity at the cell receptors if you’re ever going to have a chance with removing body fat. While there are medications to help regulate blood sugar level, no medication on the face of the earth will correct the root of the problem.

One of the most frustrating things for people about exercise is repeating a routine for weeks or months on end without seeing results. There’s a ton of misconceptions about working out and it’s certainly one of the reasons people ultimately give up on their routines.

Here’s a typical scenario I see all the time in health clubs. People strolling through the gym doing the same three sets of ten reps on the machines they’re familiar with, maybe watch a little TV while on the elliptical, then heading for the showers. And they wonder why they’re not seeing results.

The reality is nobody has probably educated them on what they need to do to see a return on their investment in time and effort. Either that or they simply would rather not put forth the effort required. If you’d consider yourself to be in the first group read on as I’ll give you some tips to help you be successful.

There may be some breakthrough changes on the horizon for men who want to ease down the road to going grey as researchers believe they’ve found some answers in the hair protein.

This could be a big deal for the guy who doesn’t want to dye his hair but would still like to slow the process down a bit. Read the story as reported in Men’s Health then check out my comments at the end. I’ve found something interesting about grey hair from a personal experience.

In part one of the “Uncovering Hidden Weight Loss Obstacles” series we talked about how digestive system imbalances can be one of the most common hidden problems with not being able to lose fat.

The importance of a digestive system cleanse so you can properly assimilate nutrients was addressed as well as some healthy ways to remove metabolic waste prior to starting a fat loss routine.

In part two of this series I’ll be going into detail on how stress can activate your fat storing switches and keep you stuck in a weight loss plateau.

So you go on a diet and tell yourself this time you’ll stay disciplined and make it work. You give up the donuts and bread and commit to eating healthy with things like whole grain cereal and wraps instead.

Maybe you lose a few pounds in the beginning but then quickly hit a brick wall where the scale won’t budge.

You feel a persistent temptation to cave in and eat something sweet, especially when you’re tired or stressed.

Something as simple as the smell of fresh baked cookies as you walk down the street or through the mall can be like a magnet pulling you in. You try and fight it with will-power but in the end the cravings are too strong and you fold like a cheap suit.

Sound familiar?

If you’ve followed my material for a while now you’d know I’m a big proponent of a Paleo or Primal Blueprint type diet, otherwise known as the “cave man” diet.

Actaully I’m somewhere in between that and following a raw, living food diet. In all honesty that would be much better but I can’t seem to give up eating meat entirely.

The center of my philosophy is eating foods that God provided for us, eliminating or significantly reducing processed and refined foods. With so much confusion over calories, good carbs, bad carbs, couting points and everything else, people are losing sight of the simplicity of health.

I frequently get questions about my opinion of drinking milk. This is one of those areas where you’ll find a lot of controversy even from the so called experts.

There’s always going to be people who take a hard stand on the polar opposites of any issue and this is to be understood. However, like most people I like to simply evaluate everything and make my own personal choices.

Here’s where I come down on the issue of drinking milk…

If you’ve followed my material for any length of time you’d know that I’m a big proponent of a Primal Blueprint or Paleo type of diet.

After all my years of research and study I’ve come to one basic and fundamental conclusion. The obesity epidemic that our country is up against is largely due to the fact we’re eating the wrong foods.

A diet of natural foods has been replaced in our country with foods that are processed, refined, and altered in ways never imagined a mere fifty years ago. The problem is not limited to junk foods and manufactured or man-made foods that make up the bulk of the standard American diet.

When it comes to weight loss insulin is one of the most important hormones in the mix. The majority of people who are overweight have some degree of what’s called “insulin resistance.”

This is where the body no longer responds to insulin as it should and becomes insensitive to it. The end result is the fat storing switches being left on and the body programmed to send energy to fat cells instead of muscle cells.

In this post I’m going to explain the main reasons why insulin resistance occurs and your best strategies on reversing it. Read the rest of this entry »
