When it comes to losing weight and unwanted body fat there’s a big misconception that results come solely from exercise and diet. These are certainly two very important pieces of the puzzle but not the only factors.

There are hidden obstacles with weight loss that can prevent the body from taping into energy reserves. See my series of articles on that subject for more information.

In today’s post I want to break down fat loss for you in the most simplistic way I knew how so you could understand what happens in your body. This will be short and sweet but hopefully it helps give you a better grasp of how fat loss works.

This might sound like a funny question but it’s really an important point to distinguish if fat loss is your goal. When people set out to lose weight they normally ONLY use the scale as a measuring stick and this causes all kinds of problems.

Truth be told, I’d be happy if everyone took a 10 lb sledge to these things as life would invariably improve for the better. The problem is the scale can’t tell us the whole story and it often results in what I call “emotional roller coaster rides” that can be extremely counterproductive from a weight management perspective.

I received a great question this morning from one of my readers and I thought it would make for an informative topic of discussion. Basically, this person was STUCK from a weight loss standpoint and wondered if more cardio would be the solution?

As you can imagine a question like this would be difficult to answer without knowing how much cardio the person was already doing along with some other basic details. A quick email to her answered my questions and I was able to give her some recommendations.

So why is it that women have a much harder time with losing weight then men do as they get older? While both groups will certainly find their bodies have changed from their early twenties to their mid thirties and beyond, it’s women who are much more likely to suffer from “metabolic slowdown.”

This is nothing more than a series of changes in the body that result in the down regulation of a person’s metabolism.  There are three main reasons why metabolic slowdown occurs, especially with women more so than men.

This is part two in my series on “fat loss truths.” I’ve created this series to help shed some light on the myths and misconceptions about what really works to lose fat and transform your body.

While I look to regularly comment and post on the latest trends in weight loss, I felt it would be helpful to reinforce the facts about what I know to work.

While some of these “truths” may not be new to you, it’s always good to go back to the basics. This will keep you from being tempeted to run blindly after the latest fad diet or so called fat loss breakthrough. Read the rest of this entry »

I received an email this week from a client that posed several very good questions regarding food choices for a pre-diabetic.  I figured this would be a great opportunity to respond to her questions in a video so I could share the answers with everyone.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there about what’s ok to eat if you’re trying to control your blood sugar levels. The tips and inside scoop you get from this video should certainly help. Read the rest of this entry »

If you were to pick up pretty much any woman’s magazine from the grocery store check out line you’d have to say yeah sure there are weight loss secrets. So many secrets in fact that you’ll find a new one printed each week.

The latest “secret” I stumbled on this past week while buying groceries was that you could lose 20, 30, 40 or more pounds without dieting or exercise if you just took this little pill of an herb that was recently discovered in the Amazon jungle. Read the rest of this entry »

So you’re stuck in a dreaded weight loss plateau. If you diet to lose weight you’re bound to hit a plateau at some point in time. It’s what you do once you hit a plateau that will make all the difference between whether you break through and continue losing fat or stay stuck in a rut. Read the rest of this entry »

When it comes to the best type of cardio for fat loss I’ve been on record time and again saying that absolutely nothing can come close to the fat burning benefits of high-intensity, short duration, interval training.

In this post I’m going to go into more detail on how to complete interval training correctly and help you avoid the biggest mistakes that people make when doing an interval workout.

Learning how to do intervals correctly can make all the difference between you rapidly shedding pounds of body fat or remaining frustrated from not seeing results at all. Read the rest of this entry »
