We all know that we should be eating more fiber in our diets, but do you know what type of fiber, how much, and what foods have the best ratios?

If not, you’ll definitely want to check out my Fiber 101 coaching video on today’s blog post where I simplify everything down for you.

I’ll also be revealing some dirty little tricks food manufacturers use to try and get you to believe their products are high in fiber. After watching my video you’ll be armed with the truth and be able to spot these little tricks in a matter of seconds by reading the labels.

When it comes to food labeled as being high in fiber, there’s often more going on than meets the eye. This week I’ll be exploring the subject of fiber, breaking through all the BS so you know exactly what’s good and what’s not.

I figured the best place to start was with a list of some of the high fiber foods to eat. Make a point to include some of the foods in your diet and you’ll go a long way towards improving your health, not to mention your waistline.

I’ve broken down into two different categories since I don’t typically eat a lot of grains and legumes. These are more of “moderation” food groups for me as I follow a Primal Blueprint type diet of mostly fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats and oils.

If you’re going to include grains and legumes, these would be the best choices from a fiber standpoint. Alright to the list.

So you’re going to give up the potato chips and garbage from the vending machine and start eating healthier to drop a few pounds.

Sounds like a good idea to me but what some people may tell you is a “healthy” snack may end up being a gut busting bomb that will sabotage your weight loss faster than you can say deep dish, stuffed crust pizza.

Check out my video blog post today where I reveal one such food and the sneaky little trick they play on you to make you believe it’s not so bad. After seeing this you won’t be so fooled.

I get dozens of questions each week about whether or not I endorse a particular food. My answer is usually pretty straight forward since as a general guideline I recommend Jack LaLanne’s “if God made it, eat it, if He didn’t leave it alone rule.” Now granted there’s moderation with things other than whole foods now and then, but for the most part I try to avoid foods in a box or with an ingredients list.

With food manufacturers getting wise to health conscious shoppers they’re doing the best they can to make you believe their products are nutritious. While they have to tell you the whole truth on the actual label and ingredients list, its fair game with packaging.

There’s no shortage of loopholes that they exploit to deceive you. Learning how to spot some of the trickery is valuable information to have when going grocery shopping.

In this article I’m going to share with you 9 different tricks food manufacturers use to prop up their products.

So you go on a diet and tell yourself this time you’ll stay disciplined and make it work. You give up the donuts and bread and commit to eating healthy with things like whole grain cereal and wraps instead.

Maybe you lose a few pounds in the beginning but then quickly hit a brick wall where the scale won’t budge.

You feel a persistent temptation to cave in and eat something sweet, especially when you’re tired or stressed.

Something as simple as the smell of fresh baked cookies as you walk down the street or through the mall can be like a magnet pulling you in. You try and fight it with will-power but in the end the cravings are too strong and you fold like a cheap suit.

Sound familiar?

When most people think of depression they think of a chemical imbalance with the brain. While this makes sense, very few doctors or health experts even speak of the connection with your gut.

What in the world could your gut have to do with depression you ask? It could have a lot to do with it!

No silly, I’m not talking about the fact that you’re sad because you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see with your shirt off. I’m talking about what’s going on inside your gut.

Most people dont’ know that there’s actually more of the neurotransmitter serotonin located in your GI tract than in your brain! It’s true. So when you start discussing mind, mood, and behavior you need to look at the health of your gut as well.

Seems like every couple weeks I read another news story about how bad it is for your health to eat meat. Figured it was about time to reveal the “story behind the story” with most of these reports and share with you my two cents for what it’s worth.

Now let me preface all this with saying I don’t think it’s a good idea to eat a ton of red meat. I personally only look to consume red meat once a week and when I do it’s typically a certain type of beef which I’ll reveal in my video.

But here’s the thing…I don’t think you should be scared by news reports that lead you to believe that eating meat is a sure fire way to cancer and heart disease. It’s not the simple…you might be surprised to learn it’s not so much the meat but how it’s cooked!

To get the full scoop and learn some tips on making your meat much, much healthier this grilling season check out my video post for today.

Up until just recently I was a pretty big drinker of bottled water. I would buy it by the case and go through it like gangbusters. But all that has changed since I learned a little inside scoop about what I was actually drinking.

Think your bottled water is healthy? You may think a little differently after reading this article. You’ll notice I didn’t say anything about bottled water being “safe.” The majority of top selling bottled waters, and for that matter most tap water, is pretty safe to drink.

But that sure as heck doesn’t mean it’s optimal for health as you’re about to learn…check out my video to get right to the solution or read on for a little more detailed explanation of the problem.

I’ve been doing a lot of reading and research lately on healing foods and herbs. When it comes to healing foods, there weren’t too many surprises.

If you want to cleanse, heal, and detoxify your body eat more raw-living foods like fruits and vegetables.

Restoring your body to a more alkaline state can do some pretty amazing things.

Certain herbs can also be very helpful in healing the body and that’s what I was finding really interesting in my research.

If you’ve followed my material for a while now you’d know I’m a big proponent of a Paleo or Primal Blueprint type diet, otherwise known as the “cave man” diet.

Actaully I’m somewhere in between that and following a raw, living food diet. In all honesty that would be much better but I can’t seem to give up eating meat entirely.

The center of my philosophy is eating foods that God provided for us, eliminating or significantly reducing processed and refined foods. With so much confusion over calories, good carbs, bad carbs, couting points and everything else, people are losing sight of the simplicity of health.
