Carol Graham Brings Home Top Award

In today’s post I’m going to share with you a pretty cool success story. It’s different because the personal training client in this spotlight is actually our office manager Carol Graham. I think you’ll find it¬†to be a pretty inspirational and¬†motivating story.

Also at the end of this post I’ll¬†be releasing the remaining winning ticket numbers from¬†the final¬†drawings¬†in part of our¬†”Client Appreciation Week.”¬†

I’ve gotten some really positive feedback from clients about the appreciation week so we’ll definitely look to do another one sometime soon.

First off, I want to thank all the local businesses who participated last week and of course EVERYONE in the Shape Con family (clients, previous clients, trainers, and fans).

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I feel truly¬†blessed and fortunate to have a place here in Charleston where we can help people change their lives. I can’t think of anything else I’d rather be¬†doing for a living, seriously. But without the support of clients and our community none of this would be possible.

Carol’s Inspirational Story

If you’ve been to Shaping Concepts sometime in the last year you’ve most likely met our office manager Carol Graham. I can’t say enough good things about Carol as she’s¬†been an incredible asset to our organization¬†and has really helped to keep everything in the studio¬†running smoothly. ¬†

Carol will be the first to admit that when she came on board with us at Shape Con, she wasn’t much into working out and knew very little about diet and nutrition. Of course it didn’t take long¬†being around the trainers¬†and watching clients before she became interested in starting a fitness program.

She started working¬†out with Steve Lawson, one of our¬†Charleston personal trainers along with¬†following his diet and nutritional advice.¬†It wasn’t very long before she started losing weight and seeing some pretty good results.

Then one day out of the blue while the¬†two were¬†working out, Steve made a random comment that would¬†end up opening up¬†a whole new door in¬†Carol’s life. Noticing that Carol had pretty impressive strength for a beginner in weight¬†lifting, he said…

“You¬†should think¬†about doing a powerlifting competition.”

After thinking about it, she figured it might actually be a good idea to having something to work towards. You know something to set goals for and help keep yourself motivated.

We’ll to make a long story short, Carol¬†followed Steve’s advice, worked out hard, and got herself prepared for her first¬†ever weight lifting competition.¬†I was so proud of her just for competing and I knew she would enjoy the event.

But boy did I ever get quite the surprise when I came into the studio the Monday morning following the weekend of her competition to see this huge award sitting on the counter.

Carol had won her division and received the “Best Lifter Award!”

Carol Graham- Squat 175lbs, Bench Press 140 lbs, Dead Lift 275 lbs

Talk about an amazing achievement…someone who had never been much of a workout person enters a powerlifting competition and WINS!

She really did work hard with her diet and training…I’ve got to¬†commend her for¬†her dedication and commitment.

Check out the video below of Carol in her competition along with an interview Mandy did with her about her success.

The thing is I love this story because it goes to show you that you can do just about anything you want if you put your mind to it.

Far too many people put off starting most anything new, not to mention a fitness or weight loss program because of self-defeating thoughts.

You know the stuff I’m talking about…”I could never do such and such…I’m too old, too busy, blah…blah….blah.”

Instead of¬†thinking¬†about all the reasons “why” she couldn’t¬†do something,¬†Carol simply¬†asked herself “why not?”

She wasn’t afraid of losing, being embarrassed, or any of that¬†stuff.¬†I’ve got to tell you, I think that made all the¬†difference.

The really cool thing is in the process she had fun and enjoyed a new experience in her life. Losing over twenty pounds, dramatically increasing her energy, strength, stamina, and all the other benefits were just added bonuses.

Now I’m not saying you have to¬†follow Carol’s exact path and participate in a powerlifting competition, but just think about all the different things you could do to¬†give yourself motivation,¬†focus, and direction.¬†

Maybe it’s doing the Charleston Bridge Run, a triathalon, half-marathon,¬†hiking to the top of some mountain peak.¬†

Heck, I don’t know there’s really¬†countless¬†activities you¬†could¬†use for a¬†personal goal to help with your training. It’s not always about just trying to lose a certain amount of weight on the scale.

When you set your sights on a worthwhile goal, great things can happen! This is our one tour on this thing called life so make the most of it.

Live with passion, try new things, do something you’ve never done before.¬†Most of all get excited about¬†something.

When you put EMOTION into¬†your goals there’s a big time increase in the¬†success rate. Maybe you’ll be the next person I’m spotlighting on my blog for a success¬†story.

If you’re new to working out or could¬†use some accountability, motivation and direction, do like¬†¬†Carol did and¬†get with a personal trainer. Of course if you’re in the¬†Charleston¬†area¬†you can come check out the fitness professionals¬†we have at Shaping¬†Concepts.

I offer a FREE no-obligations trial for people to test drive my Charleston personal training programs and experience the Shape Con difference for themselves.
