Best Exercises To Get A Flat Stomach

Most people working for a flat stomach and trimmer waistline are making one or more major mistakes in their exercise choices. Unfortunately this is a result of misinformation and ineffective strategies being promoted as solutions.

There are more infomercials on ab gadgets than any other type of fitness equipment. While they all promise a flat stomach by simply using their product, truth be told, their so called “solution” will more than likely leave you frustrated and discouraged. 

Getting a flat stomach requires a combination of doing the right exercises and eating the proper foods to support fat loss. It’s also essential to eliminate toxins in the body which lead to inflammation and bloating. In this article, I’m going to specifically cover the most effective exercises to use if you want to see a flat stomach.

The truth on crunches and sit-ups…

The most commonly performed exercises are crunches and sit-ups but in reality these are two of the least effective movements. In fact, these two exercises can actually make the appearance of the dreaded “pooch belly” even worse. Here’s why…

Crunches and sit-ups primarily work the rectus abdominus muscle group (what you see in a six pack). They neglect to integrate the deeper core muscles like the transverse abdominus which serve to naturally hold your stomach in.

Some of the most effective ab exercises…

The best abdominal exercises are movements that work the entire core musculature with integration and not isolation. Here are just a few of my favorite exercises:

• Cable Wood Chop
• 1 Leg Medicine Ball Chop
• Stability Ball Roll Out’s
• Plank Knee Tucks
• Resistance Band Rotations

You’ll notice that the core exercises I recommend all have one thing in common. They’re not done while sitting down. This is a key factor in determining whether or not a particular ab exercise is a good choice to use in your fitness program.

Your core muscles work to support your back and get integrated with other muscle groups when performing everyday activities. I suggest you avoid health club machines or ab gadgets that have you isolating your abdominals from a seated position. They simply work your abs in a manner that doesn’t integrate their function like in real life.

For best results you should also look to incorporate resistance training and interval cardio workouts to maximize fat loss. You can use the best core exercises to firm up your abs but if you’re not removing the fat covering up your midsection you won’t see them.

So there you have it. Don’t waste your time on countless crunches and sit-ups. Combine core exercises that integrate your abs along with resistance training, cardio, and good nutrition in your fitness program. When you do, you’ll see much better results.
