As a fitness professional I often have people I meet tell me all the reasons why they don’t exercise. I guess they feel they need to justify their excuses when talking with me since I’m a personal trainer and they assume I’ll judge them.

A common mistake I see being made all the time is individuals starting out an exercise program “backwards” by putting cardio workouts first before ever doing resistance training. This is especially true for overweight individuals because there’s a common misconception that cardio is “better” than resistance training for weight loss.
What does it mean to be “fit?” Fifty years ago if you asked ten people this question you’d probably get ten very similar answers. Today the definition may be significantly different depending on who you ask.

A cover story in the Post & Courier yesterday of the same title addressed the impact of our country’s obesity epidemic on the military.
The article really got my attention and provoked some deeper thoughts on this problem could impact our future.
