If you’re looking to build lean muscle and drop body fat, what you do after your workouts is just as important as what you do during your workouts. You need to provide your muscles with an overload stimulus during your workouts in order to stimulate new growth but it’s not in the gym where the change takes place. Most people over the age of 50 look at me funny when I ask them if they know about “sarcopenia.” You’d think I was asking them about a diesease or some weird illness.

The truth is sarcopenia is a common but little known health problem that effects older adults. In fact, 50% of adults age 75 and older have this condition. What is it? Its age related muscle loss also known as muscle atrophy.

It starts in your 30’s then progresses as you continue into your middle age years. You start to lose lean muscle, gain weight, and see a sharp decrease in energy. What’s the cause? It’s a series of hormonal changes that is commonly referred to as “somatopause.”

If you’re considering taking a weight loss medication I’d strongly advise you to do your own homework before simply accepting the okay from your doctor. Sadly enough far too many doctors hand out free samples with a “why not give it a try” attitude. How half of the medications get approved by the FDA is beyond me. When you see some of the severe side effects it will definitely make you think twice.
