20 Worst Drinks In America

My good friend Johnnie Jordan passed along a really cool article to me this week from Men’s Health magazine about the “20 Worst Drinks In America.” It was a special feature¬†from the¬†people who¬†write the “Eat This Not That” books.

I love their stuff and think¬†it’s¬†so¬†impactful because of the visual element. When you can see how much sugar is really in something compared to other foods it gets your attention.

Anyways, I thought you’d enjoy seeing the list so I made a quick video with some intro commentary and then included the slides of all 20 drinks.

Sugar ain’t no joke folks. I’m reading research now that indicates it may be on the same scale as drugs like heroin from an addictive standpoint. Here’s what I do know…sugar causes¬†big time hormonal¬†responses in your body (none of them good)¬†and¬†basically puts you on a hamster wheel¬†with craving sugar, eating sugar, craving sugar,¬†and eating sugar.

It’s hard to get off this wheel unless¬†you take drastic measures (for a while) and really get it out of¬†your diet. This way you can begin reprogramming your body to fuel off fats. If you’re a sugar addict, the words “moderation” can’t apply to you. You’ll continue to fight the cravings and give in¬†regularly until you fix the root of the problem which is low insulin sensitivity.

Go cold turkey for 30¬†days and eat exclusively from fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds,¬†lean proteins, and healthy fats…and see what happens for yourself. Know going in that your body will fight the removal of sugar¬†tooth and nail¬†in the beginning (first¬†4-5 days)¬†but it will be¬†well worth it later once it adjusts to using other fuel.

The¬†real taste of freedom only comes once¬†you’ve broken your addiction and dependency on sugar and then you can truly enjoy¬†a sweet¬†on occasion and not worry¬†about it¬†or¬†feel out of control¬†by wanting more and more.

Bottom line is this stuff with “wanting sugar” isn’t all in your head. It’s big time physiological and¬†not willpower. Change how you fuel¬†your body and things just¬†fall into place. Sugar¬†cravings subside, energy crashes¬†are gone, sleep improves, your mood¬†will¬†get better, and the list goes on.

Regardless of where you’re at, do your body a big favor and leave these drinks out of your¬†diet. You’ll be glad you did…
